Getting to Know Pack 216

St. Paul's Lutheran Church - Lionville PA

Pack 216 is chartered by St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lionville and is closing in on its 50th anniversary with St. Paul’s. Our Pack meetings are held at St. Paul's generally on the third Thursday of the month at 6:45 pm. Our dens either meet at St. Paul's or other nearby locations.

If you are interested in learning more about Pack 216 please contact Cubmaster Ed Kellogg at cubmaster@lionville216.mypack.us.

How Does Cub Scouting Work?
Each Cub Scout is part of a Pack.
Pack 216 consists of boys in kindergarten through grade 5 from Lionville, Chester Springs, and surrounding areas and is made up of several Dens:

  • Kindergarten - Lion Scouts;
  • Grade 1 - Tiger Scouts;
  • Grade 2 - Wolf Scouts;
  • Grade 3 - Bear Scouts;
  • Grade 4 - Webelos Scouts; and
  • Grade 5 - Arrow of Light Scouts.

Each Den has a Den Leader and an Assistant Den Leader who is parent of one of the boys in the Den. The Den Leader will generally organize and run the Den meetings with the help from the other families in the Den. Each Den arranges their Den meetings according to their schedule.

There is also an Adult Committee Meeting on the 1st Monday of every month at St. Paul's. This is the time when the Committee Chair, the Cubmaster, Assistant Cubmaster, the Den Leaders, and any interested parents plan the upcoming events.

How Much Does Scouting Cost?
Scout dues are $185 for returning scouts and $258 for new scouts for the 2022-2023 school year and $15 if you'd like Boy's Life magazine. Other events like campouts and overnight sleep-ins have a nominal cost as set by the company providing the experience. For Pack camping in March and June, we try very hard to keep costs down so everyone can participate (including siblings).

In addition, a Class A uniform, belt, and some patches must be purchased. Families purchase the Chester County Council shoulder strip, World Scouting Crest (purple circle with fleur de lis), and Den number strip. The Pack provides a red "216" unit patch, neckerchief and slide, and Cub Scout Handbook (for first year in pack).

What Activities Does Pack 216 Participate in?
Typical Pack 216's monthly Pack meeting activities have included:

  • September: The first Pack meeting has a carnival theme. The boys will be playing games at different stations while the adults have a chance to learn more about Cub Scouts.
  • October: This meeting has involved environmental awareness programs or other topics. The Pack also generally does a fall overnight camping trip.
  • November: The Pack participates in Scouting for Food and donates the collected food to The Lord’s Pantry in Downingtown.
  • December: Includes a cookie exchange and a winter scavenger hunt.
  • January: a toy auction allows the boys an opportunity to get a gently used toy donated by another Scout and raise money for St. Paul’s (our Chartering Organization). At one Pack Meeting we also run a Uniform Inspection to reinforce that A Scout is Clean. The month this is done varies based on Pack meeting content.
  • February: Pinewood Derby Race. Scouts everywhere participate in Scout Sunday and Scout Sabbath services at local houses of worship.
  • March: Winter Camp at Camp Ware and the Blue and Gold Dinner. At this dinner, the Arrow of Light Scouts cross over to Boy Scouts.
  • April: This Meeting also generally has Boy Scouts come to teach the Cub Scouts scouting skills like first aid, physical fitness, cooking, and knot tying. We also schedule a family camping weekend in late April
  • May: This Pack Meeting is a cookout at the picnic area near the swimming pool at Marshcreek State Park. Scouts are promoted to the next rank in a ceremony at this event.
  • June, July, August: We have lots of summertime activities for scouts and their families to participate in including summer camp at Camp Ware.

Can Moms and Siblings Participate?
Absolutely, Cub Scouting is a family program. We always welcome every parent’s participation at the meetings and the outings. We consider our Pack camping trips to be family camping. We have moms and dads, brothers and sisters of all ages at these events. Some events like Summer Camp are strictly for Cub Scouts and parents (including moms); sorry siblings.

Come check us out and help make our sons better citizens and people.
